Features
URL Filtering – Controls employee web access for specific content categories. This not only maximizes productivity but also enforces compliance and reduces legal risks, especially in educational environments where child protection is essential.
Malware Detection - Filters all web and FTP traffic in order to stop viruses, spyware and active content from entering your network. Prevents hidden “phone home” communication from spyware infected PCs, avoiding the leakage of confidential data.
Application Control - Steers and manages access and use of IM/P2P applications, including Skype, in order to prevent unwanted communication channels and questionable file transfers. Usage of specific applications can be either allowed for specific IP addresses, alerted to the administrator or blocked completely.
Bandwidth Management – Orchestrates the bandwidth in order to prioritize important business applications. Allows definition of granular bandwidth limitations for certain applications, including IM/P2P.

Is it possible to mix Astaro Security Gateways and Astaro Web Gateways in a single network?
As an elaborated Unified Threat Management product, Astaro Security Gateway will satisfy the requirements of most network environments. To meet special performance and security requirements, however, it is possible to mix both the Astaro Web Gateway and Astaro Security Gateway in a network.
Is it possible to upgrade from an Astaro Web Gateway to an Astaro Security Gateway?
No. Astaro Web Gateway is designed as a web security product and cannot be upgraded to the Unified Threat Management functionality of Astaro Security Gateway.
Are there additional modules or subscriptions available for Astaro Web Gateway?
Astaro Web Gateway is designed as a web security product and comes with a special web subscription. Further subscriptions or options are not available.
Is it possible to apply an Astaro Web Gateway hardware license on a Astaro Web Gateway virtual appliance and vice versa?
No. Astaro’s hardware and software products use different licensing models. They are not interchangeable.
Will the Astaro Web Gateway continue to function when the maintenance has expired?
Yes. As long as your subscriptions have not expired, the security applications will continue to function. However, they will not receive any pattern updates and will therefore be vulnerable to new threats within days.
Is it possible to upgrade from a small hardware appliance to a larger appliance?
No. There is no standard upgrade path for hardware appliances. However, you are able to easily increase the performance of your hardware appliance by adding another similar unit and running both as a cluster. You are able to cluster up to a maximum of 10 units.
Is there a home user license available for Astaro Web Gateway?
No. The Astaro Security Gateway home user license contains the web security features found in Astaro Web Gateway. Astaro Security Gateway home use licenses are available via MyAstaro.
When should I use Astaro Web Gateway?
Astaro Web Gateway is designed for customers who would like to keep their existing firewall solutions and require comprehensive web security and a high performance solution.
